Kagetsu to Mayu Iwatani: A Final Threat

(This article originally appeared in Japanese on Tokyo Sports Web and Yahoo Japan.)

Kagetsu (age 25), the leader of Stardom’s heel stable Oedo Tai, issued an ultimatum to Mayu Iwatani (age 25), the promotion’s icon, on May 14.

At Korakuen Hall on May 23, Oedo Tai (Kagetsu, Hana Kimura, Sumire Natsu and Hazuki) will face Iwatani’s stable STARS (Iwatani, Saki Kashima, Tam Nakano and Shiki Shibusawa) in an eight-woman tag match. In an unusual move for Stardom, it’ll be a three-fall match with a 30-minute time limit. Kagetsu had this to say…

“What’s the point? Look at Oedo Tai right now. Look at STARS. Anyone can see how it’s gonna turn out. What happened, did Iwatani beg [Stardom president] Rossy Ogawa to make it three falls so she wouldn’t have to watch STARS get wrecked too quickly?”

Pointed words towards Iwatani — both the leader of Oedo Tai’s rival stable and a personal rival of Kagetsu’s. The feud between the two women stretches back several years.

“Iwatani was riding pretty high last year, when she held the World and Wonder of Stardom titles. But you’ve gotta admit, she’s slipping. The war between the factions is heating up, but there’s no room for her crew in Stardom’s ring anymore. I’ll do everyone a favor and make some more breathing room. I’ll break STARS up.”

Sounds like Kagetsu has set her murderous sights square on Stardom’s leading stable itself.
